The ecological impact of cotton based banknote substrates<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css_animation=”fadeInLeft”]In order to find an optimum balance between security, durability and sustainability of banknotes Papierfabrik Louisenthal, a subsidiary of Giesecke + Devrient, appointed DFGE \u2013 Institute for Energy, Ecology and Economy to conduct a study on the ecological impact of cotton banknote substrates. The project target was to compare the Product Carbon Footprint<\/a> and water consumption of three different banknote substrates \u2013 Standard cotton, Longlife\u2122 cotton and Hybrid\u2122.<\/p>\n

Within the study, the different banknote substrates were assessed via a complete analysis considering the selected inventory boundaries. The study was based on the methodology of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol<\/a> Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard and the ISO 14040\/44<\/a>.
