DFGE\u2013 Institute for Energy, Ecology and Economy provides consulting and auditing services to realize a Green Vision integrated in corporate business processes. Being active in all leading sustainability reportings and consulting Fortune 500 companies as well as mid-sized corporations in their sustainability management DFGE has put together a list of the 10 top documents to help organizations report on these topics when they receive stakeholders\u2019 requests.<\/p>\n

1 \u2013 CSR report<\/strong><\/p>\n

A CSR\/Sustainability report is a tool gathering the organization\u2019s actions and progress regarding various CSR topics. Existing standards help companies set up their reports\u2019 contents and quality such as GRI[1]<\/a>, the International Integrated Reporting Framework[2]<\/a>, etc. It is a way for stakeholders to find accurate information in an accessible way.<\/p>\n

2 \u2013 Endorsements <\/strong><\/p>\n

Companies can take part in and adhere to various CSR\/Sustainability standards like United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)[3]<\/a>, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)[4]<\/a>, among others. Then, stakeholders can find them in the list of participants and read the related public reports, which shows companies\u2019 external commitments.<\/p>\n

3 \u2013 Certificates <\/strong><\/p>\n

Health and Safety, Environment, Energy, Information Security Management systems can be certified externally. A certificate gives credibility to the management system as it is the result of an independent third party audit<\/p>\n

4 \u2013 Impact\/Risk assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is useful for companies to assess their environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts. It enables them to know where their impacts in order to better manage them and the associated risks.<\/p>\n

5 \u2013 Materiality Matrix <\/strong><\/p>\n

A materiality matrix is the matching between companies\u2019 priorities and stakeholders\u2019 interests: it helps prioritize CSR issues and indicates that stakeholders were consulted.<\/p>\n

6 \u2013 Policy\/strategy<\/strong><\/p>\n

When stakeholders and company\u2019s priorities have been identified and matched, the company can decide its CSR strategy, where it states its commitments, and can set related targets. Given policies per topic are a tool to communicate these targets and commitments.<\/p>\n

7 \u2013 Organigram<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dedicated responsibilities enable the company to implement better its CSR strategy. An organigram points out who is responsible for given topics and also indicates whether CSR is discussed in high-level decision-making committees.<\/p>\n

8 \u2013 Code of conduct<\/strong><\/p>\n

A code of conduct is a tool to communicate stakeholders\u2019 main rights and duties regarding CSR, and it is usually signed by employees, clients, suppliers.<\/p>\n

9 \u2013 Action-related documents <\/strong><\/p>\n

There are as many documents as there are actions. They can be processes, case studies, training support, collective agreements, etc. They just need to showcase companies\u2019 actions towards the implementation of their sustainability objectives.<\/p>\n

10 \u2013 Dashboard <\/strong><\/p>\n

A dashboard shows the KPIs in a graphic way. It can be published online or reused in the CSR report. KPIs assess the performance of actions and progress overtime.<\/p>\n

\u201cFulfilling this list is hard work, but companies can manage to structure a relevant and solid sustainability management system if they invest in sustainability intelligence and systems to enable them to track information and to reuse it to make sure that all stakeholders have access to the data they need\u201d states Dr.-Ing.
