Known as an expert in carbon footprint calculation, DFGE extends its range of services to include holistic support for the development and implementation of climate strategies. As exclusive CDP partner for Science-Based Targets in the DACH region, DFGE now accompanies a partial offsetting within the climate strategy through climate protection projects and the certification of the efforts by a seal. DFGE thus extends its lead as a full-service provider and helps its customers to operate in a climate-neutral manner, either in part or on company level.
Munich/Greifenberg, November 12, 2020 – The determination of a company’s greenhouse gas emissions, the so-called Corporate Carbon Footprint, has become a central component of corporate sustainability and is becoming increasingly important in connection with the topic of climate strategy. The DFGE – Institute for Energy, Ecology and Economy has been supporting its clients for more than two decades to achieve tangible climate targets and to specify the necessary emission savings.
“The trend towards climate-neutral products, services and companies is very encouraging. However, it should not be forgotten that a correct and solid calculation of the carbon footprint and a comprehensive climate strategy form the foundation for this. A seal will not save the environment, it is about a holistic and sustainable approach to the emissions issue”, comments Dr.-Ing. Thomas Fleissner, founder and CEO of DFGE.
“The expansion of our services to include consulting and the purchase of climate certificates for climate neutrality provides the last small component in our climate strategy offer”, continues Fleissner.
The development and formulation of a science-based climate strategy is considered a central component of successful climate management. In a holistic approach, DFGE as a full-service provider deals with the calculation of the carbon footprint up to certification and a possible compensation via climate protection projects. Together with a well elaborated implementation plan and concrete measures, which are set up in a “Climate Action Plan” clearly defined by DFGE, these individual steps form the climate strategy of a company and help companies to avoid climate change risks and to take advantage of opportunities that arise. DFGE works science-based according to its proven top-down approach and is the first Science Based Targets Partner to comply with international standards such as the ISO standard and the GHG protocol.
Since a complete avoidance of CO2 emissions is difficult to achieve, companies are increasingly investing in climate protection projects and are offsetting their residual emissions by purchasing certificates. In this process of change, DFGE supports companies with the greatest sense of urgency to work climate-neutrally in parts or on company level. CO2 emissions caused by individual business processes or the entire company are first reduced through energy-saving and energy-efficiency measures. Then the remaining emissions are neutralized through CO2 compensation certificates for reforestation or aid projects, for example. DFGE then awards the seal of approval for climate-neutral products or companies for sustainability communication.
