“The fact that we have now achieved a gold rating after earning silver demonstrates just how crucial robust processes and precise record-keeping are. Through our collaboration with DFGE, we have not only significantly improved our rating but, above all, permanently strengthened our internal key performance indicators and documentation structures.”
Challenges
Making Sustainability Performance Visible and Measurable
The Lorenz Group has been reporting on its sustainability performance for years (including as a participant in the UN Global Compact). However, the company faced an operational hurdle with regard to the global EcoVadis rating: The scope of consolidation in the group report differed from the specific scope of assessment in the EcoVadis profile.
To accurately reflect actual sustainability performance, key metrics and guidelines had to be precisely defined, interdisciplinary departments had to be coordinated, and supporting documentation had to be prepared in a manner that would stand up to an audit. In addition, it was necessary to proactively integrate the reputation-critical “360° Watch” indicator into communications.
Solution
A Systematic Approach for a better EcoVadis Rating
Together with DFGE, Lorenz focused on systematically improving the rating preparation process:
- Gap Analysis & KPI Mapping: Review of all existing guidelines and creation of an EcoVadis-specific database.
- Process Governance: Implementation of a timely, structured document management process across various departments, incorporating EcoVadis-specific document review.
- 360° Monitoring & Reputation: Conducting targeted workshops to evaluate external data sources and establishing transparent, fact-based sustainability communications.
Result
81 Points and a Gold Medal: Sustainability becomes a measurable Success
This structured approach led to a steady improvement in the EcoVadis rating: After earning a Silver medal in 2025 (top 10%), Lorenz secured a Gold medal in 2026 with a score of 81 out of 100, placing it among the top 4 percent of companies evaluated worldwide.
