Mastering the EU Taxonomy challenge together
The EU Taxonomy and the CSRD are key EU tools to promote a sustainable economy as part of the EU Green Deal.
A central part of the CSRD reporting obligation is the EU Taxonomy – a clear and comprehensible framework that helps you to identify sustainable economic activities. With the goal of making Europe climate neutral by 2050, finance plays a key role. The EU Taxonomy enables you to check whether your activities meet the defined sustainability criteria and thus make a real contribution to the EU climate targets. At the same time, you can transparently show what proportion of your turnover, investment and operating expenditure you can allocate to sustainable activities. This not only supports your company, but also directs capital towards ecological and future-proof projects.
The process for determining EU Taxonomy compliance
To meet the requirements of the EU Taxonomy Regulation, you must go through a structured process to ensure that you analyze, evaluate and report on your business activities in terms of their environmental impact.
The first step is to analyze your business activities to check which activities fall under the categories defined by the EU Taxonomy. Companies use an eligibility check and an alignment check to determine whether their business activities comply with the EU Taxonomy.
Conformity requires the fulfillment of the following three conditions:
The activity must fulfill the technical assessment criteria of the EU taxonomy defined for the respective environmental objective.
The activity must not significantly affect any of the other environmental objectives. The DNSH criteria of the taxonomy must be used for this purpose.
Companies must comply with fundamental social and governance-related standards, such as the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises or the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The EU taxonomy-compliant share of turnover, investments (CapEx) and operating expenses (OpEx) by the economic activity carried out must be included in the CSRD report and taxonomy-compliant and eligible economic activities must be reported.
